lyrics

Rainy day in March, Spring showers blooming flowers in your grave.
I muddied up my shoes, feeling out of place in my cheap suit.
Shared your weight with the boys as we carried you down
from the church yard to the ground.

Those last few years were tough so I think it's time that you finally rest your bones,
and get back to that husband that you lost so long ago.
He died young and left you to raise seven kids alone.

Raindrops on my windowsill, they woke me in that early morning grey.
Your household roused in silence, without you, on that first lonesome day.
I watched your daughter lay down in your bedroom for the last time.
For her it's not some ordinary heartbreak, it's a new kind of goodbye.

She buried the only parent she'd ever known and she said goodbye to her home
in that small town she grew up in and out of long ago.
And those rocky hills, they're filled with our ancestors blood and bones.

Those last few years were tough so I think it's time that you finally rest your bones,
and get back to that husband that you lost so long ago.
He died young and left you to raise seven kids alone.
The greatest woman I've ever known rests in the West Virginia loam
